’58 Foundations & Waterproofing, a long-histories home waterproofing company, and Sudoc, a pioneering chemical industry startup, have announced a partnership to bring a more powerful and sustainable way to remove mold and clean mold stains from residential and commercial properties to 11 states in the Eastern U.S.

Since 1958, ’58 Foundations & Waterproofing has been providing home and commercial property owners with best-in-class foundation repair, basement waterproofing, crawlspace encapsulation, and mold removal solutions. Keeping properties safe, dry, and healthy.

Built on a tradition of honesty, integrity, teamwork, and communication, ’58 Foundations & Waterproofing believes in taking a customer-first approach. For this reason, the partnership between ’58 Foundations & Waterproofing and Sudoc is a natural one. Both companies are focused on the best and most environmentally sustainable solutions for their customers.

With their quality products and honest methods, ’58 Foundations & Waterproofing is not your typical waterproofing and foundation repair company. We believe in developing a deep trust between contractor and customer. Showing that our team never cuts corners when repairing your home or commercial property.

“We have been following Sudoc and its Dot Cleaner brand since they were selected by Chemical & Engineering News for their Top Ten Start-Ups to Watch award,” said Kevin Coppersmith, CEO of ’58 Foundations & Waterproofing. “When they were named, a World Changing Idea by Fast Company, I knew we needed to learn more about this company. Those are big awards for a new company, so we decided to run our own tests. Sudoc’s Dot products are truly extraordinary and use a fraction of the chemical content. That is a perfect fit for our mission to use sustainable, non-intrusive products to support our Five-Star Service. But ultimately the test for us is that it must work exceptionally wellThat is what won us over with Dot.”

Unlike other products used in mold stain cleaning solutions, Sudoc is a chemical company that’s seeking to outperform existing chemicals with their Dilute Oxidation Technology. Also known as Dot. Sudoc set out to create a sustainable alternative to the more toxic solutions, using a patent-protected molecule known as NT7. This molecule emulates the same action of an enzyme that exists in the human liver. Allowing it to achieve high levels of performance while reducing chemical content. Ultimately, this creates a greatly effective product that gets the job done while leaving behind a significantly smaller chemical footprint.

Roger Berry, CEO of Sudoc, commented: “We are proud to bring Dilute Oxidation Technology to 11 new markets through our partnership with ’58 Foundations & Waterproofing. Kevin and his forward-looking team are committed to providing superior services for their customers and take deep care in every product they choose. It is an honor that they have chosen Dot. It is our mission to reduce chemical burden through the development of excellent products so a partnership of this scale with ’58 Foundations & Waterproofing means we are having an immediate impact for many workers and households. We look forward to growing with ’58 Foundations & Waterproofing so together we can support excellent cleaning services with far less chemical.”

For homeowner Milton of Georgia, he was in the process of buying a home and moving in. But there were foundation cracks detected, both exterior stair-step cracks in the brick wall as well as interior cracks. So, the homeowner called on ‘58 Foundations & Waterproofing to help see if these problems could be fixed with our foundation repair expertise.

The Situation

After performing a free inspection, the ‘58 crew were able to determine that the home’s foundation required additional support. Cracks were forming in the foundation and the floor of the home was starting to sink low. The supports within the home’s crawl space were also beginning to crack. These problems would need to be addressed promptly or they would get worse with time.

A Home Analysis

The home was 61 years old as of 2022 and it had plenty of time for the home to experience settlement.

All homes experience some degree of settlement over time. But as Milton had found out, sometimes a home’s foundation can sometimes experience uneven settlement. When this happens, increased strain can be placed on parts of the home until problem signs appear. One such problem sign was the stair-step cracks on the exterior brick wall that were found.

The ’58 Foundation Repair Solution

For the ‘58 crew of foreman Matt and his crew members DJ and Trevor, they immediately knew their goal was to make the home “structurally sound” and to get “repairs done in a timely manner so they can move in sooner”. They understood that Milton was excited to move into his new home, but he wanted to make sure his home was safe. And so they quickly went to work!

A series of crawl space floor jacks, our ‘58 Strong Floor Stabilizers, were needed to be installed within the crawl space. These would provide support to the floor that was beginning to sink. Along the side of the house, our ‘58 Strong Helical Piers were installed to directly reinforce the foundation. Together, these two ‘58 solutions provided the house with the proper support needed to handle its load.

When the job was done, the crew made sure to tidy up. They ensured that the job site was made clean and presentable. The home was ready for Milton to move in and feel safe!

The Homeowner’s Thoughts on the Job

The ’58 Way: Honesty, Communication, and Teamwork

At ‘58 Foundations & Waterproofing, we firmly believe that honesty, communication, and teamwork leads to a job well done. We’re happy to hear that Milton felt the same after his experience with Matt and his crew.

Milton explained how he appreciated the honest approach that our ‘58 crews adopt when helping their customers with their needs: “[Matt] Explained how the support jacks worked that were being used to raise and support the load of the house. He suggested that one jack wasn’t going to do anything for supporting the home on the outside of the home. He was straight up about it and saved us some money—he could have put all 4 jacks in and not said anything. There are so many companies that would not have done this and just took the money. That is true honesty in the work that they do.”

When it comes to communication and teamwork, it’s not just between ‘58 team members, but also with how we communicate with our customers. We want to keep our customers informed of every step of the process and be available to answer any of their questions. For example, at one point, Matt informed Milton that a change had to be made to a support beam that he was installing in the crawl space.

Five-Star Foundation Repair, Five-Star Customer Care

At ‘58, we believe in getting the job done right! Matt thoroughly explained why the support beam needed to be adjusted. Milton was impressed with the customer care provided, describing that “[Matt] stopped all work and showed me what was going on explaining that he would need to install a longer beam to raise and carry the load. That in itself shows me that a company with men like Matt and his crew care more about their customers and the true needs to get the job done right, safe, and not take more money out of their customers. If you’re looking for a very good company that is good at what they do, cares about their customers, and they’re honest and respectful of the home, look no further than ‘58 Foundations & Waterproofing. They will take care of you.”

Thank you for the wonderful words, Milton! It was a pleasure to serve you!

_That is true honesty in the work that they do … Matt and his crew care more about their customers and the true needs to get the job done right, safe, and not take more money out of their customers._Milton, Customer

The presence of water in your basement is an indication that you require a professional basement waterproofing company. From water seepage after a heavy storm to groundwater intrusion, these can cause wet basement walls, high basement humidity from standing water, and discolored basement walls. To put a stop to these wet basement problems, it is best to invest in a comprehensive basement waterproofing solution.

The Six Most Common Causes of Wet Basements

It is important to solve your water problem first before you can correct any of the other problems associated with it. As a basement waterproofing contractor, ’58 Foundations & Waterproofing has continually perfected our basement waterproofing system to address all the common ways that water can get into your basement. At ‘58 Foundations & Waterproofing, our basement waterproofing experts use a patented system that is highly effective at keeping basements dry. The ‘58 Foundations Waterproofing System is the result of more than a half-century of design ingenuity, and has repeatedly proven capable of protecting against the six most common causes of basement water intrusion:

Basement waterproofing is part of our company’s DNA. Since 1958, ‘58 Foundations & Waterproofing has offered a proprietary basement waterproofing system. With our solution, your home will be protected by our specially-engineered drainage channels called Channel ’58. Our ’58 waterproofing system has proven effective at keeping basements dry and usable. After conducting a thorough inspection of your basement and other areas around your home to check for signs of water intrusion, our basement waterproofing experts will address any problems that are detected.

Time is of the Essence

Wet basement problems should be promptly addressed to prevent moisture-related problems. Excess water or moisture in the basement can lead to problems including…

Groundwater intrusion is usually a symptom of hydrostatic pressure on your foundation. Aside from the moisture-related problems mentioned above, that same hydrostatic pressure can also lead to basement floor cracks and bowing basement walls. Fortunately, ’58 Foundations & Waterproofing is more than just a basement waterproofing company. For over 63 years, we have also been providing five-star services in foundation repair, crawlspace encapsulation, and mold removal!

On an ordinary day, a heavy rain storm comes passing through town. You might not think much of it, that is until you go to get something from the basement. Then you find an alarming sight waiting for you. It might be water trickling down your basement wall, or your finished basement’s carpet is suddenly soaked because of leaky crack in the floor. Whatever the scenario, it can be stressful for homeowners to discover that their basement is all wet.

The 6 Ways of Water Intrusion

Let’s take a look into the 6 main ways that water can enter your basement, and how this can be prevented!

What is Hydrostatic Pressure?

As the soil becomes saturated, such as during a heavy rain storm, there is a buildup of hydrostatic pressure against the foundation walls and floor. Whether it’s cracks in your basement wall or floor, or your basement cove where the slab meets the foundation wall, these spaces provide water with a path of least resistance. From gravity to hydrostatic pressure, these are the forces that lead to water making its way through your foundation and into your basement.

Hydrostatic pressure is no joke. WaterproofMag.com explains why it’s the reason that water can cause cracks in concrete and penetrate its way into your basement. “This pressure can exert enormous forces.  Four feet of water exerts nearly 300 pounds of pressure per square foot of wall. A basement footing with ten feet of saturated soil above it must withstand 600 pounds per square foot.”

With the proper maintenance habits and waterproofing measures in place, you can help make sure that water isn’t left to sit against your foundation to create that enormous hydrostatic pressure. Let’s dive into the ways that you can keep that water away from your basement. So that your basement remains dry, safe, and useable.

Ways to Keep the Water Out of Your Basement

There are a variety of measures that you can take to help prevent water from collecting against your home’s foundation. The less water there is lingering against your foundation, the less hydrostatic pressure there is against your basement wall. This means fewer chances of damage or water intrusion. Have a look at these different ways that you can help keep water away from your foundation. The more of these you follow, the better chance you’ll have of enjoying a nice and dry basement for longer…

Cleaning the Rain Gutters

Your rain gutters are one of your first lines of defense against water damage on your foundation. By guiding rainwater from the roof to the ground, they prevent rainwater from seeping directly into the soil against your foundation and basement. But over time, rain gutters can get clogged with debris. This is why it is important to regularly inspecting and clean your rain gutters.  While checking your rain gutters, be sure to tighten any loose extensions or gutter straps, and flush your downspout with a garden hose to make sure everything is clear and secure.

Extending Your Downspout

To help further protect your basement and foundation from water damage, consider extending your downspout. Be sure it’s reaching at least five feet away from your house. This will help ensure that rainwater from your roof will be deposited far enough that it doesn’t seep into your surrounding soil. You can also consider installing an underground drainpipe.

Ensure Proper Grading Around Your Home

The ground around your foundation should be sloping away from your home. Try to aim for having the ground sloping downwards, descending about one inch for every foot away from your home. But you should never have the ground sloping upwards while walking away from the foundation of your home.

Seal Any Gaps in Your Basement

From the space around your plumbing pipes to foundation cracks, seal any gaps that can let water in. These openings can allow outside moisture and water to seep into your basement. For some of these gaps, like the space around your plumbing pipes as they pass through your foundation wall, it is possible to seal them yourself. But for foundation cracks, it’s highly recommended that you have a professional foundation repair contractor assist you. They can help inspect that foundation crack and determine if it is a problem and what solution it needs.

Waterproof Your Basement

If you’re encountering serious groundwater problems, it may be wise to have your basement waterproofed. From the installation of French drains and sump pumps to waterproofing your basement walls, there are a variety of measures that can be used to keep groundwater moving out and away from your home. A waterproofing expert can help determine a personalized solution for your home’s unique situation.

While things like cleaning your rain gutters can be done fairly easily on your own, if you’re not sure about how to do certain things, it may be best to contact a waterproofing expert who can help. With the expertise of a waterproofing contractor, you can make sure that your waterproofing measures are installed and maintained properly. Ensuring a safe and dry basement for years and years.
